Well, folks, the site is working again, but we've got to work on some behind the scenes changes, so it's going to evolve slowly over the next few months.
In the meantime, please check out the new and improved gallery. Matt fixed it so that it wouldn't take forever to load anymore, and it looks gorgeous.
That's not nearly all the news, but that's all I'm going to type right now, since I'm really tired. Enjoy the new and improved site, and I hope it helps you in any research that you might have.
Yours, Charleen

Hi folks! I just thought I would send out a hello to all the new folks visiting the site!

Please feel free to look around, and find what you want. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to click on any of the email links to let us know. Also, check out our links - especially the online tree.

Can't wait to hear from y'all! Enjoy your visit!

Hi guys!! I know that y’all have been wondering what on earth has happened with this site!!! I just have been very busy with both my jobs, and that has been keeping me from working on genealogy . Please forgive my absence, and know that, while I haven’t been able to update anything very often, I’m still dedicated to my quest for information on both the Hageney's and the Mullenweg's, and to the maintenance of this site.

As some of you may know, we had an unpleasant issue late last year, with someone breaking into this news feature, and posting some unpleasant comments. My Mother discovered this, and Matt took care of it in record time. He even fixed the problem that had enabled those people to break in. Matt and I both see this site as a resource for the living, and a memorial to those who have gone before us, so if you ever see anything offensive comments or mistakes like that, please let Matt or me know, and we’ll address it as soon as possible.

For those of you that have sent me email with questions about or additions to the site, please don’t despair if I haven’t replied. I still have the email, and I’m going to start going through them. Just remember that each one has to be individually researched, so it’s difficult to get to them quickly. Also, the more information that you give me in the email, the better; especially if the last name is very common (i.e. Hill or Smith), if you have a family tree already worked up, or a site with your family’s information on it, let me know and I will look at it and see if it meshes with the information that we have. Or you can check out our Online family tree, and look for any parallels. I realize that it’s large, unweildy and difficult to load (especially for folks with a dialup modem), but it may help you narrow down your search.

As I’ve said before, pictures and documents are a big help, so please let me know if you have any that might provide some information. Matt and I have discussed breaking up the Gallery into sections (i.e. documents, houses, gravesites, people, etc), but we haven’t gotten to it yet. Matt is in college now, so his time is very limited on when he can implement the myriad of programming ideas that I throw at him. I have no clue how to build a site in anything more complicated that Front Page, so this is definitely his department. If you have any ideas on improving the site, please drop me an email, and I’ll let him know.

We have some significant birthdays, and celebrations that are happening (congratulations Matt for turning 20!!!), so let me just take a moment to send everyone my very best wishes in this new year, and all the celebrations it involves! Hopefully, I will be a little more accessible this year, and get to see some of you that I haven’t seen in a long time. Happy new year!!!!

Yours, Charleen

Hi y'all! I'm writing you from a place of mixed emotions right now, and I'm finding it very difficult to think of the words that I need to say.

I'm sorry to announce to you all the loss of Will Henry Mullenweg, Sr., who was one of the kindest and sweetest gentlemen that I've ever had the honor of meeting. Will was very gracious, and supportive of my showing up every few months and asking him fifty questions. He touched everyone he met, and he will be missed greatly by everyone here. I've posted updates on his accounts as well as his obituary in the notes section - kindly provided by Darlene Byrd Mullenweg on Friday, it can also be found at The Denton Record Chronicle (warning, I have yet to be able to fully access this site; it's being really difficult). I will try and activate links in the obituaries recently posted as soon as possible.

In more joyous news, we have a new addition to the family tree! Mary Megan Davenport was born to proud parents Lynn Mullenweg Davenport and Chad Davenport. She's their fourth daughter, and is joining siblings, Sarah, Daniel, and John.

Keep your eyes glued to the site for further changes, and I will do my best to keep y'all as up to date as I am. Watch the Mullenweg and Mühlenweg sections as the entries are starting to stretch further and further back thanks especially to the hard work of Stefan Mühlenweg of Hamburg, Germany. Three cheers also go out to my patient brother, Matthew "I hate Umlauts" Mullenweg for wading through the morass of problems that we were having with German characters, and for putting up with me calling him at all hours to give him my ideas. As your questions, comments and additions pile in by the day, Matt and I are doing our best to keep up with them! Keep them coming as every little bit helps. Thank you all so much for all of your support. Yours, Charleen

I wanted to wish everyone a happy new year! 2002 saw a lot of progress in this site, and we hope to see even more in 2003. You may be wondering why the current birthdays below show so many people born on January 1, in various years. This is because we put in the most specific information we know, but in some cases Charleen might only know the year someone was born, and nothing else about their birthdate, so she'll put in the correct year with the first of the year as the birthdate. This is by far the most common, though I believe there are instances where the month and year are known, but not the date. If you see anyone below with the wrong birthday, or any wrong or incomplete information on the site, please contact us!

Well, for those of you that asked for it, the family is now on the internet in tree form. You can go and view it at Online Family Tree
Scroll to the bottom of the little page that I made there, and you should see the tree there both in downloadable Gedcom format, and then something that they call an internetree that you can look at online (it might take a while to load, so be warned). All information about living folks has been made private, and there's no way to do exceptions for that - even for the folks that asked to have their information public.
The internetree is kind of weird to get around in, but just read the instructions at the bottom of the page. The important thing to remember is to select the window with the tree in it, and hit the letter "f" on the keyboard. This will allow you to scroll through an alphabetical index of folks, and choose the one you want to make the focus of the tree you're looking at.
If it gives you any trouble, please email me, and I'll help you through it. It's absolutely free to look at, so that shouldn't be a problem.
Have fun!
In other news, congratulations to the Davenport family, who are expecting their fourth baby very soon, and to the Brogdon family, who's expecting thiers in October!

Ok, I have some really REALLY good news right now! I got an email yesterday from Stefan Mühlenweg, (who - as I've mentioned before - is doing a whole bunch of research for us out of the kindness of his heart), and I think he's not only solved the immigration issue, but he's found Louis Charles, Sr's father, and Fredericka's maiden name! As all of you know, this is the brick wall that I've been hitting for about a year and a half, so you'd think I'd have made an update to the site already. Well, no I haven't. I had some issues come up last night that prevented me from doing it. I hope to get it done tonight, though, so look for it!!!!!!!!!!!!
On a more somber note, we wish to extend our deepest condolences to Mullenwegs and Davenports in Denton, who have lost one of their number. Our prayers are with you in this time of loss.

Just a little snippet of news here...I just got in on Sunday from Bacliff where I spent a few days at the Brogdon house there. Birdie, Leroy, and the family took wonderful care of us! They all made us feel so welcome...and well fed! Thanks to all of them for the wonderful time!
In other news, I have been talking with Stefan Muehlenweg of Hamburg, Germany (sorry, Stefan, I can't figure out how to make the umlaut!). He's helping us look for Louis Charles Mullenweg, Sr. on the German side. Here's a thank you from all of us for all of your hard work, Stefan! More news soon!

So much news to relate!!! Well, first and foremost, my one & only brother, Matthew, got his diploma & hood on May 31st! The ceremony was exciting, & we all had a grand time. Congratulations Matt!
Several of you have remarked on the lack of updates to the page, & I must admit that was partially my fault. I had to take a break, as I had really worn myself out with all this data entry! Look for updates to trickle in over the next few weeks. The "look" of the page won't change again until July, however, as Matt is taking a much needed break from it all & attending camp in D.C. He should be back at the beginning of next month, so you should see plenty of formatting changes then.
Several of you have noticed additions to the gallery. These are all here thanks to the generosity of Emmett Sojourner, Sandy Shaver, & Brogdon family, who donated over 60 photographs. There should be more showing up in the gallery over the next few weeks. Thank you so much to everyone who has donated pictures and time to this; your time & assistance is greatly appreciated!
I had better sign off now as I have so much work to do! Talk with you soon! - Charleen

Check out our new Gallery. Submissions are welcome!
In other words, dig up those old pictures, and send them on in! You can scan them (.jpg or .gif format please), send them (email Charleen for her address), or arrange for us to come and scan them (pref. in TX, please!).
We've been nominated for a Texas Genealogy award folks, and one of the things that they look for is pictures. Something besides names and dates. It doesn't matter if they're a person, a family house, a tombstone, a restuarant that you liked to go to as a child...we would love to display them!
Please contact us if you have anything that you think would look nice, and we'll work with you!
Note: Any picture of an individual that is currently private will show up in the gallery, but not on that person's individual page. This allows us to show off our gorgeous family, with out comprimising anyone's privacy.
Also, we are now able to show large group photos with links to the individuals involved. Eventually, the photos will have to be divided up into categories, but right now you can see them all in the Gallery

As you may have noticed, mullenweg.com is now at version .7, which is a major milestone in terms of the code structure. The code running this site is now more efficient and written in an object-oriented fashion. In addition to optimizing the PHP code, almost all the SQL has been rewritten to be more efficient and to take advantage of some of the new features of MySQL 4. The MySQL server itself has been optimized a bit, so many more of the results should come from cache now, resulting in an overall faster experience from the site. The new architecture of the site's code will allow for faster development of features.

Speaking of features, the site now has a new one which informs you what data data we're still missing for someone when you browse their entry. If you know any of it off hand, or know where you can get it, drop us an email!

You can now listen to my recital over at a new site I've been working on, SeniorRecital.com. If you like it leave a comment.

Made a ton of new updates, and even more are on the way. There are a number of new additions to the information displayed on the Genealogy pages. On the root surname page two features have been added for faster navigation, a list of the top 5 accessed family pages and a option to view the surname list by letter. Also family pages can now have notes on them, so if there are general notes about the family, such as alternate spellings of the name etc., you can now view them. For an example see the Mullenweg family. A permalink feature has been added to the news system, making it more robust and contributing to the worldwide battle against linkrot.

I've got some exciting things planned for the site soon, let me know if you have any additional ideas:

You may have noticed the new Timeline feature on the menu. This allows you a new way to explore the genealogical information in the database chronologically. There have also been some code and speed optimizations throughout the site. Enjoy!

You may have noticed that there's a whole bunch of new folks! Our numbers have topped out at 240 surnames, and just under 800 individuals. I haven't gotten all the marriages in yet, so bear with me. Thank you so much Colin for the updates, and thank you Matt for supporting the technical side and dealing with all of my crazy ideas!

As some of you may know, I have been making a whole lot of additions to the people on the site, & will continue to do so. One of the more important ones, is a recent review of Matt's Senior Recital that I put under his name (Mullenweg, Matthew), so check it out! Also this site is going to be expanding to abt. 800 individuals (thanks to Colin Hageney, and others!), so keep coming back, and I will try and keep you posted as I make significant additions.

So much news to do! I went to Matthew Mullenweg's senior recital in Houston yesterday, & it was GREAT! Never have I seen a better concert! Who would have ever thought when Matt started playing the sax in grammer school that he would ever be that good! I also met with Gary Brogdon for a little while & gave him a package I put together for his mother, Birdie, as a thank you for a couple of wonderful old pictures & copies of some bible pages that she gave me. This has really fleshed out the Mullenwegs, Riggs, Childers & Sojourners a lot! Look for the updates throughout, & look for partial scans of the pics under Pearl Mullenweg, and Emmett Sojourner, Sr.

Check out the new themes at the bottom of the page! Kathleen is a lovely Orchid theme, and the new Bluebonnet theme perfectly captures springtime in Texas. Enjoy! And keep those phone calls and emails coming! They really help!

I have had the distinct pleasure of speaking to Mrs. Dora Sojourner Baccus (daughter of Pearl Mullenweg Sojourner), and let me warn you, ladies and gentlemen, that - thanks to her and Gary Brogdon's family - this site is going to take off with a whole bunch of new information. Look for all of this soon!

Wow! When it rains, it pours! I've just heard from Gary Brogdon (grandson of Pearle Mullenweg), Denise Weinman (granddaugter-in-law of Anna E. Clesi)! I've also heard from Stephen Miller who is (I believe) another grandchild of Anna E. Clesi. I'm still trying to co-ordinate information with these folks, but look for updates on those branches of the family real soon. Matt and I have also been working on a Texas theme for the site to celebrate our 150th year of Mullenwegs in the state, so look for that as well. For now, I'm going to go to sleep and dream of little chocolate bunnies and Easter eggs. Happy holiday to you all and best wishes to our travelling cousins, Cissie and Walt! Keep safe!!!

Let's hear it for Matt Mullenweg! I just heard from the man of the hour himself, and he told me that his team from the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts won the state round of the Fed Challenge. Matt will be heading to Washington D.C. very soon to compete in the national round! You can see a picture of him in action under his name in the genealogy section in this site. Congratulations, Matthew!!!!

Morning! I'm in Denton right now, so I can't type much, but I thought that I would catch y'all up w/ the good news and the bad news. The bad news is that we are still having technical difficulties with the site. Matt is really busy with graduation coming up, and it might be a little longer before it's fixed. Now for the good news: I may have found the solution to "Judge" Mullenweg, and this mysterious Hempstead ODHS organization that he belonged to. I pulled this one reference off of a university website, so tell me what you think: "The Ordens der Hermannssohnne was a fraternal organization whose business was conducted in German and whose stated purpose was to foster German unity. The Uniontown lodge was founded May 1, 1897." Sounds about right to me! Love, Charleen

Hi All! You may notice that some of the information has gone a bit strange, with repeated fields or names. Please bear with us while Matt finds a solution to the problem. He's working his little hiney off on it in what little free time that he has, so it should be fixed soon. If you have any questions, feel free to email me.
Still looking for Dora and Jude Hageney...

Ok, I have a question for you guys: Who are Dora and Jean Hageney, and where did I get the names from? I have been going through all my notes, and I can't find anything on them! I must have gotten them from somewhere....

Just thought that I would add a quick note to the site; no more novels, I promise! I'd like to welcome everyone that's visiting us, and encourage all of you to stop by regularly. I'd also like to encourage you to stop by the links and check out some of those great sites! I'm still adding marriage information by the day, so some of these surnames are finally going to start making sense to you guys. Also if anyone wants a copy of the family tree report for their family, drop me a line, and I'll send it right over. Talk to you all soon!

I went ahead and cleaned up the links page, so that should all work now. Added some new areas to the Stats page, so you can now track who the latest people that Charleen put into the database are. So far this area has been used for site news, but if anyone has any Mullenweg news please submit it using the link below! I also made it so you could now browse the notes that Charleen has been attaching to some of the entries. Very interesting information.

I added some new ways to show relationships in the database, so now when you browse a person it can show parents, spouse(s), siblings, and children! This is a big step in the site. Now we need to just bug Charleen to enter more data :).

Made some more changes to the structure of the site. Also note that the FAQ and email pages are up, and the Links page is almost there. Also some pretty exctiting changes are coming in the Genealogy section, so keep your station locked.

Matt just redesigned the site tonight; doesn't it look gorgeous?? If you're having trouble reading it, go down towards the bottom of the screen, and you'll see a little button marked "Site Prefs". Hit that, and you'll be offered a few options on the coloring, and such. That should make it easier to read. I think that this is ten times what I could have wished for!

I went to the archives today, and picked up some neat new information on the Billingslea's, Wichmann's and Mullenweg's! Mostly residences and such, but there's some neat new information. For instance, the Mullenweg's apparently lived in the same four block area in Houston from 1897 to the 1950's! Look for all of this to be appearing on the site soon!

Testing out the new news system. Once this is fully up everyone will be able to add news from their web browser. If you can read this, it works :).
